Dear CCS Families,
First and foremost, we hope that you are doing well. We miss interacting with you in our usual way. In these unfamiliar times, we need to find more creative ways to stick together.
During the extended school closure (currently through 5/15/20), Campus Community School’s goal is to provide opportunities for each student to continue to make academic progress. We want your children to be ready for the next grade level. While the building is closed to students, this time should not be viewed as “time off”. We still have school; it just looks and feels different. For this plan to be most successful, we will need to continue to maintain a strong home-to-school connection.
Campus Community is using a hybrid model for Learning from Home. Students at each grade level will receive required, recommended AND optional learning opportunities. Work will include a combination of online resources, paper/pencil resources, and hands-on activities.
We know that “learning from home” presents challenges and may be difficult at times. We have created a plan to help simplify the process and maintain some consistency. The teachers have been asked to choose the learning that is MOST essential for the remainder of the year. They have also been asked to consider the materials and format that would be easiest to work through from home. It is not our goal to recreate a 7-hour school day. This would be too overwhelming for everyone.
Beginning Monday, April 6, 2020, work will be disseminated every 2 weeks through the school website, mail, and drive-thru pick-up. Students and family members will NOT be allowed into the school. Work can be returned through outside drop-off boxes every Monday, as well as email and Remind. It is important to note that teachers will NOT be sending work through Remind or email during this time. These forms of communication will still exist, but will be used for reminders and individual communication. Zoom, a forum for group meetings, is also being encouraged.
The school staff is here to support and guide you through this. We have assigned a staff member to our students requiring additional academic assistance, and our larger families in the school, as a way to streamline communication and help with the complexity of multiple grade levels. You should be hearing from them soon. If ANY family, big or small, is in need of additional support, please communicate with your child’s teacher(s) or Mrs. Greene (email@example.com) so that we can work on a solution. While we have a plan, please know that it is flexible. If something isn’t working for the majority of people, we will look for ways to modify our approach.
Please see our FAQ’s for more detailed information regarding the extended school closure. We will continue to update you through emails, phone calls, and the school website (campuscommunityschool.com). In the meantime, let’s keep our heads up and join forces to give our kids what they need, support – love – and accountability.
Missing You All,
Heidi Greene, Campus Community – Head of School
